Project Evie: Fire Extinguisher Setup

If you ever plan to install a fire extinguisher inside your Alpha chassis car, or take it to the track, you may already know there are several existing solutions for mounting it. The basic requirement in either case is having a fire extinguisher within arm’s reach inside the vehicle. However, most of the mounts I found online position it directly in front of the passenger seat, which can be intrusive for daily driving and may also interfere with or damage the OEM interior over time.

You can find the sources of the mount here.

As a solution, I designed this mount that can be fabricated using a 2–3 mm aluminum plate and directly bolts to the back rails of the passenger seat. This keeps the extinguisher within easy reach while allowing one-handed removal from the bracket. You can download the 3D model from the project GitHub page and have it fabricated through an online metal fabrication service. In most cases, this ends up being cheaper than purchasing a comparable off-the-shelf bracket.

Below are the things that you’ll need to install it:

  • Fire extinguisher and the mounting bracket (I used a First Alert)
  • Mounting hardware for the bracket
  • 2x 6mm steel standoff (24mm height)
  • 2x 6mm hex nut and bolt
  • Drill

Note: You may need to slightly enlarge the left rail bolt hole to accommodate a 6 mm standoff. Alternatively, a 5 mm standoff can be used without any modification.

The 3D model does not come with pre-drilled holes, since the layout can be adapted based on your specific setup and constraints.
